The first Dapa 8080 Triathlon race set this coming June 13, 2020 at the Dapa Boulevard on Siargao Island will open its registration on March 5 and eyes to attract 800 triathletes.

This was disclosed by  Dapa Mayor Elizabeth T. Matugas together with Cornerstone Group’s Quinito Moras, Steven Maniquis, technical director Joel Juarez and Isla Tourism foundation representative Gabino “Borgy” Abejo Jr.  in a press launching, Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Cebu Country Club.

Matugas banks on sports tourism in making the municipality of  Dapa a  popular tourist destination in the future.

“In order for Dapa to be popular, we have to create an event to attract more visitors to come to our town. Out of the  nine (9) municipalities in Siargao Island, though  considered as the economic center, Dapa is left behind in terms of being a popular tourist destination. So, my vision is  to make Dapa  a popular destination through sports tourism,” said Matugas.

What makes this race exciting is the total of P500,000 worth of cash prizes to be given away to the winners.

The top three elite winners in the 8080 distance, which features a 1.8 kilometer swim, 65K bike and 14K run, will be receiving P30,000, P20, 000 and P10,000, respectively, while the top three finishers in the half distance will win P20,000, 10,000 and 5,000, respectively.

“Even the age group winners will also be receiving cash prizes,” said Moras.
