Sunrise Events, A Part of the IRONMAN Group Dominates Sports Tourism Awards

CEBU CITY – Sunrise Events Inc., A part of the IRONMAN group and its flagship triathlons IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 dominated the recently concluded Philippine Sports Tourism Awards. Sunrise Events Inc. was bestowed a total of three awards for impeccable sports tourism management and their continued commitment to promote sports tourism in the country.

Organized by Selrahco PR and Primetime Plan Bravo, the Philippine Sports Tourism Awards, now in its 3rd year, sought to recognize and celebrate the movers and shakers of sports as a major pillar of Philippine tourism. Different institutions which were awarded the prestigious PSTA trophies varied from governments, private companies, venues, conventions, and more. A total of 14 awards were presented in the Grand Bar & Lounge of Resorts World Manila, Pasay City.

Sunrise Events together with the City of Davao received the award for Destination Marketing of the Year for their efforts in underpinning Mindanao as a safe and happy place for sports despite the dire aftermath of the Marawi siege the year prior. The 2018 70.3 Ironman filled slots the same day they opened and brought together local and international triathletes to the undeniable charm of Davao City.

The 3rd PSTA also recognized Sunrise Events Inc.’s pulsing efforts up north. The 2018 IRONMAN in
Subic Bay marked the first time that IRONMAN went full distance. This racked up over 1,000 triathletes as a result. The award was received together with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority for the latter’s full support and assistance.

These, along with their other annual events including IRON KIDS and the 5150 triathlon, highlighted Sunrise Events Inc. as a powerful driver for Philippine sports and tourism. Sunrise Events Inc. was awarded the Organizer of the Year – Private Award—capping off the night with a total of 3 awards. Having started from one event in Camsur that yielded 583 participants, Sunrise Events Inc. has now become a sports organizer powerhouse, managing around 12-15 multi-sport events that garner thousands of athletes in an annual basis.  Sunrise Events has been awarded the best International Event Organizer for three years in a row.   Sunrise Events, Inc was acquired by the IRONMAN group, a part of Wanda Holdings Inc in March 2019.

Other winners of PSTA 2018 were The City of Dumaguete (Event Organizer of the Year – Government), Ceres – Negros FC (Sports Association of the Year), Resorts World Manila (Charity Event of the Year), Sunlife Financial (Event Sponsorship of the Year), Philippine Airlines (Airline of the Year), AA Philippines (MICE Event of the Year), Marco Polo Plaza Hotel (Hotel of the Year), Cebu Pacific – Juan for Fun (Adventure Event of the Year), Philippine Sports Commission/Philippine National Games (Event of the Year – Domestic), Panaad Park & Sports Complex, Bacolod City (Sports Venue of the Year) & Clark Freeport (Sports Destination of the Year).
