Startup Weekend Cebu Women Edition Set On Sept. 27

Over fifty participants are expected to join the Startup Weekend Cebu Women Edition slated this coming September 27 up to 29, 2019 at the KMC Solutions located at the 16th floor of Skyrise 4 Tower B building in Cebu IT Park.

THE ORGANIZING TEAM

This is in line with TechStars celebrating Startup weekend for women globally for the whole month of September. This is considered as the world’s biggest entrepreneurship program done in three days.

According to the event’s facilitator, Ashley Uy, the three-day event will be filled with networking, pitching, mentoring, building prototypes and validating business models.

Participants will also get the chance to compete in the international arena as the business pitch event goes global this year.

Lead organizer Maryann Apale said that this year’s edition is special because it is not only focused on uplifting women but also, they are going global.

“2019 is going to be bigger and better. Last year, it was just for ASEAN countries but this year, the event is going global,” said Apale.

The 54-hour event eyes to attract designers, developers, marketers, and startup enthusiasts to pitch, build a prototype, present to a panel of judges, and possibly launch startups all in one weekend.

A representative of the winning team will be flying to Singapore for free to compete with other teams.

“Last year’s women edition, the winning team had the chance to fly to Bali, Indonesia, and present their winning idea to the participating countries in the Asia Pacific. This year, the event is done simultaneously worldwide and the final pitch will be in Singapore,” Apale added.

Remarkable women mentors such as Elaine Bernice, Laurice Chiongbian, Timmy de Jesus, Patricia Kyle Mendoza, and Bon Louie Gimarino will be helping the teams.

“Founders who are tech-oriented will get a crash course in finance, marketing and become a well-rounded founder in theory,” said Chiongbian the CEO of Qavalo.

Chiongbian also gave a piece of advice for those aspiring participants of the three-day event that the investors are keen on investing with founders who know to bootstrap, accountable, and have profitable startup ideas.
