Luisita bounces back, draws level with Canlubang for an exciting final round

BACOLOD CITY – Defending champion Luisita outscored Canlubang at the Bacolod Golf Club Friday to draw level going into the final round of the 34th Philippine Airlines Senior Interclub golf team championships.

Benjie Sumulong and Rodel Mangulabnan, bouncing back from poor performances Thursday, each carded 51 points to lead the Luisita fightback.

Raffy Garcia added 47 as the Tarlac-based squad pooled 149 points for 426 overall.

Canlubang drew 145 points from Tommy Manotoc (49), Abe Rosal (48) and Rene Unson (48) to match Luisita’s total output.

 “At least we got the job done by beating them on the third day,” said Luisita captain Jeric Hechanova. “It’s going to be fun and exciting tomorrow.”

“It’s good. We are excited to play tomorrow,” said Canlubang skipper Tony Olives.

Cebu Country Club was 20 points down in third place with NOGCC settling for fourth with 400.

CCC drew 50 points from Kyu Ok On, 46 from Kwang Seok Kim and 44 from Ramontito Garcia.

NOGCC, on the other hand, leaned on Jimmy Yusay (44), Alec Lustre (43) and Stephen Paduano (42).

In the Founders division, Del Monte Golf Club retained an 18-point lead over Orchard after both squads finished with 136 points apiece.

Led by Raul Minoza’s 50 points, Del Monte now has 411 points.

In third place was Eagle Ridge with 388 points.

Meanwhile, Kenneth Kim of Orchard aced the 18th hole at the Bacolod Golf Club to win a set of Titleist AP2 irons and one business class round-trip ticket.

The other category leaders were Villamor in Aviator with 381, Van City in Sportswriter with 342 and Bacolod in Friendship with 314.
