The lucky recipients for this year are the student-athletes of Cebu City Central School and the Camp Lapu-Lapu Elementary School accompanied by sports coordinator Jeannie Lapingcoa and principal Maria Loida Marticion.

This advocacy of Milo started in 2010 with the goal of providing shoes and other sports equipment to the race participants who join the Milo sports program with their bare feet. This gave the organizers an inspiration to come up with a program that can enable the kids to have their own running shoes through the proceeds of the purchase of Milo products. Each year, DepEd chooses the beneficiary school which Milo will give away shoes to, and to date, they were able to donate a total of 85,000 pairs of running shoes nationwide. One hundred pairs of shoes and 80 basketballs were donated yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center headed by Nestle Philippines Inc Vice- President Willy De Ocampo, Milo Sports executive Lester Castillo, and Cebu leg organizer Ricky Ballesteros. Part of Milo’s mission is to to help build healthy Filipino families to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Hopefully through this program, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), they get to encourage more and more children to get into sports since sports doesn’t only keep the body and mind fit and healthy but it also is a great teacher that encourages children to develop character-forming values such as determination, teamwork, hard work, and perseverance. These are values that they can take with them in the court but most importantly, they can also apply in the community.

“We want to build champions not only in the court but champions in life as well,” said Willy De Ocampo, Nestle Philippines Inc Vice- President.

The “Help Give Shoes Advocacy” will continue to donate more shoes and sports equipment to its future beneficiary schools in the country as they continue to inspire sports enthusiasts especially the children by getting them into sports, young and early, for them to be able to grow up with values that can help them become champions in life.
