Over 250 golfers will get a shot at the sought-after hole-in-one prizes of the  LUDO Golf Tournament in a two-day tournament slated  January 17 until 18, 2020 at the Cebu Country Club.

The hole-in-one prizes include six vehicles from sponsors BMW, Isuzu, Mazda, Mercedes Benz, and Toyota (Mabolo and Mandaue).

The tournament format is a three-man team scramble with a minimum handicap of 40 per team. A total handicap of the 3 team members divided by 3 will be the team handicap. Only one single-digit handicap team member is allowed per team. The teams will choose one day to play.

“We got an overwhelming response this year with participants coming from the different parts of our country. Our registration closed just a few days after we opened it,  ” said tournament founder and chairman  Douglas LuYm during a press conference together with Amanda LuYm and tournament director Jake Marques.

LuYm added that they have players on a waiting list. They limited the number of participants so that the tournament will be manageable and everyone will get to enjoy the tournament.

Considered as one of Cebu’s premier sporting, the tournament is anchored with advocacy by providing immediate financial relief through direct donations to those stricken by the worst disaster areas in the country.

“All of us want to live longer, so we can enjoy and have more; however, beyond enjoyment, there must be a higher purpose. We should live longer and achieve more so we can help those in need around us. The LUDO Golf tournament is one of the ways we can do this, and in this instance, it goes towards the benefit of the Cotabato earthquake victims,” says LuYm.

LuYm’s daughter Amanda, who is one of the organizers, shared the history of the tournament. According to Amanda that the LUDO Golf Tournament started in the 1980s as a memorial tournament in honor of her paternal grandfather, Cayetano LuDo. It highlighted camaraderie and friendship among peers.

When Cebu Country Club had a fund-raising for those affected by the Banda Aceh tsunami 2004, they received an email from a young boy, whose family was one of the direct recipients of their support. The message of the email states “ as a Muslim, we do not have Christmas or really have a Santa Claus, but maybe he is real and he lives in Cebu Country Club.”

“We were all touched by his message, that’s when the seed was planted.  The tournament turned into a charity tournament,” said Amanda.

In 2018, over 300 participants took part in the inaugural tournament which raised nearly Php 7 million for the families of the fallen Marawi. In 2019, the tournament raised Php 5 million which was personally given to the 444 affected families of the tragic landslide in Naga City.

This year’s proceeds and donations will be given straight to the earthquake victims in the province of Cotabato. Donations of any amount are also accepted during the Award’s Night on January 18, 2020.

Presented by LUDO Corporation, Mactan Electric Company, Petron, SMC Global Power, Total Power and co-presented by Korean Electric Power Corporation, Marubeni Corporation, San Roque Power Corporation Philippines, and Team Energy Strengthen in Synergy.

A Toyota Rush will be the grand raffle prize during the awarding ceremony. The event is also supported by Landers Superstore Cebu who will be giving free membership cards to participants.
