THE 10th Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis tournament kicks-off last Saturday, January 22, 2016.

Cebu hosted the first leg out of the 51 legs all over the country and  considered  it as the country’s widest annual tennis tournament for the youth with its mission to dive into the tennis grassroots and identify more talents to hone their skills and turn them into one of the country’s top tennis players.

The tournament will run until the 26th of January (Tuesday) in three venues such as the Citigreen Tennis Resorts, Pardo Tennis Club Inc. and at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) tennis courts.

The event is backed by the country’s leading and largest micro financial company– Cebuana Lhuillier– and spearheaded by its president and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, a known sports patron in the Philippines and the current  chairman of the board of the Philippines Tennis Association (Philta).

For several years, the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis has been molding young netters by serving as an avenue  to hone their skills and  to gain exposure by playing in a higher level of tennis competition as they face top regional players.

The tournament is also a place to  inspire other kids  to get into the sport believing that  through tennis it can turn them not only champions inside the court but as well as champions in real life.

“The tournament advocates a total human transportation of young tennis players by helping them reach their tennis career dreams. Be it making a career out of it or use it as a way to earn a scholarship. We  also aim to hone these talents to not just be champions in sports but also in real life,” said Lhuillier in a press statement.

For 10 years, the tournament has served as the stepping stone of  today’s top tennis players such as Philippine Davis Cupper and Pepperdine University tennis scholar Francis Casey Alcantara, world tennis juniors rank no. 12 Alberto Lim Jr., 2015 Southeast Asian Games (Seagames) men’s tennis doubles silver medalist Jeason Patrombon, Oklahoma Stae University tennis scholar Jurence Mendoza as well as the Philippine’s current top female netters-Marian Capadoccia, Kim Iglupas, and the Patrimonio sisters, Clarice and Christine, among others.

The tournament is open to all young  Filipino tennis players aged 18 and below. It is co organized by PHILTA, which is the national governing body for tennis. WITH PRESS RELEASE
