Light the World Giving Machines Officially Launched in Cebu

The spirit of Christmas shone brightly in Cebu as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially launched the Light the World Giving Machines on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the 2nd floor of The Mall at NUSTAR. Cebu is the first city to launch this year’s Giving Machines, followed by installations in Manila, Davao, and—for the first time—Bacolod City.

The Giving Machines are part of a global initiative that allows individuals to “give instantly” through vending-machine-style kiosks where people can purchase donation items for communities in need. Instead of receiving a product, donors select essential goods such as food packs, hygiene kits, medical supplies, school materials, and livelihood tools. These are then distributed by partner organizations to families and individuals who need them most.

In 2024, the Light the World Giving Machines raised ₱750,000 nationwide, significantly supporting charitable missions across the country. With more locations and greater public awareness this year, organizers are hopeful that even more Filipinos will participate and embrace the message of kindness and meaningful giving.

The launch event opened with a recap of the 2024 Giving Machines, featuring touching stories of beneficiaries whose lives were uplifted by generous donations. The presentation illustrated how even the smallest act of giving can spark a ripple effect of hope and positive change. Messages from partner representatives further strengthened this spirit of collaboration. Architect Joseph Michael Espina, Chairman of the Parents Reach Foundation, Nathaniel Rafols, Program Coordinator of Cebu Caritas, and Magdalena Lopez, Executive Director of the Kythe Foundation, each expressed their continued commitment to supporting humanitarian work in Cebu, emphasizing that unity and shared purpose are vital in addressing community needs.

A moving Light the World video presentation followed, encouraging attendees to reflect on the global movement promoting kindness during the Christmas season. It served as a reminder that generosity knows no cultural or social boundaries.

Support also poured in from local leaders and community partners. May Adolfo, General Manager of The Mall at NUSTAR, expressed pride in the mall’s partnership with the Church and reaffirmed their support for initiatives that uplift Cebuano families. Cebu City Mayor Hon. Nestor Archival delivered an inspirational message commending the Giving Machines as an innovative way to make charitable giving more accessible to the public. He highlighted how projects like this foster compassion and civic responsibility among Cebuanos.

The highlight of the event was the message of Elder Carlos G. Revillo, Jr., Philippines Area President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He encouraged Filipinos to become “lights of the world” through simple acts of service, reminding everyone that even the smallest contribution can ease burdens and inspire hope. Adding joy and star power to the celebration were Eric “Eruption” Tai and young actress Xia Vigor, who both expressed enthusiasm for supporting a cause that brings communities together through kindness.

The event concluded with the much-awaited unveiling of the bright red Light the World Giving Machines—eye-catching, inviting, and ready to welcome the generosity of Christmas shoppers. Guests gathered around as the machines were revealed, officially opening a month-long opportunity for the public to contribute. With just a tap or the push of a button, Cebuanos can now donate meals, clothing, medicines, or livelihood materials, all of which will be delivered to beneficiaries by trusted charity partners.

The Light the World Giving Machines continue to redefine charitable giving by making it simple, meaningful, and impactful. As Cebu leads this year’s nationwide launch, the initiative serves as a powerful reminder that the true spirit of Christmas lies in giving and uplifting others. With thousands expected to visit The Mall at NUSTAR this holiday season, organizers hope the Giving Machines will inspire more Cebuanos to open their hearts, share their blessings, and help light the world through love, service, and compassion.
