Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue Unveils State-of-the-Art Heart and Vascular Institute on 10th Anniversary

In a bold statement of innovation and leadership in cardiovascular care, Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue (CHHM) formally inaugurated its Integrated Heart and Vascular Institute on February 14, 2026, marking its 10th Founding Anniversary with the launch of what hospital officials describe as one of the most advanced cardiac facilities in the country.

During the press conference, Dr. Francisco Chio Jr., Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute, confidently declared that the newly opened center is “not only the finest in the Visayas and Mindanao, but among the best in the entire Philippines.” He was joined by Medical Director Dr. Virginia Abalos and Assistant Medical Director Dr. Maria Rosal Trani in presenting the facility’s capabilities.

Located on the Lower Ground Floor of CHHM in Mandaue City, the 350-bed capacity institute showcases state-of-the-art medical technology designed to deliver seamless, comprehensive cardiovascular care. Among its highlights is a cutting-edge Hybrid Catheterization Laboratory integrating the Philips Azurion 7 R3 Hybrid OR Suite and the Siemens Healthineers ARTIS Icono Cath Lab System—an advanced configuration that enables both minimally invasive and open-heart procedures to be performed in a single environment without transferring patients.

The Institute also features dialysis-ready Coronary Care Unit (CCU) beds, an integrated recovery room, comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation services, and advanced cardiovascular diagnostics—all strategically housed within a 2,998-square-meter purpose-built facility. The design ensures continuity of care, from emergency intervention to long-term rehabilitation and prevention.

The Valentine’s Day inauguration gathered hospital executives, medical specialists, partners, and government leaders, including Cebu Province Piso Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, Lone District of Mandaue City Congresswoman Emmarie “Lollypop” Ouano, Department of Health Region 7 Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes, Cebu City Vice Mayor Tomas Osmeña, and Municipality of Consolacion Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado, who joined the ceremonial ribbon-cutting in support of strengthening access to quality heart care for Cebuanos.

For over two decades, Chong Hua Hospital has played a key role in advancing cardiac care, beginning with the establishment of the Chong Hua Hospital Cebu Heart Institute in 2003. The new Mandaue-based Institute significantly expands capacity to manage complex and high-acuity cardiac cases across Central Visayas and beyond.

During the opening program, Mr. Benito Gaisano, Chairman of Association Benevola de Cebu Inc. (ABDCI), emphasized that the expansion directly addresses the growing demand for advanced heart and vascular procedures, ensuring that more patients can receive timely, world-class treatment closer to home.

Dr. Catalan likewise expressed admiration for the facility’s integrated approach. “I was amazed by the newly opened Cardiovascular Diagnostics and Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit, where they have consolidated the essential services—including the Coronary Care Unit, recovery room, and Hybrid Operating Suite—into one coordinated system,” she said.

Hospital officials underscored that while advanced technology is a cornerstone of the new institute, collaboration remains its foundation.
