Noy Seno in Hot Pursuit of ITF Dreams
Multi-titled Cebuano netter Jan Godfrey “Noy” Seno yearns to get into the main draw of the International Tennis Federation Men’s Pro Circuit as he plans to see action in five ITF Futures tournament before the year ends.
The 18-year-old pride of Bogo City in northern Cebu has just competed in the 36th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open in Manila against the country’s top racquet-wielders.
“This is a good preparation for me as I make another attempt to make it in the main draw of the ITF Futures a few days from now,” said Seno.
Seno took his first shot at the Vietnam F1 Futures in Thu Dau Mot City. However, he did not make it to the alternate list because those prioritized to join are those who have earned ITF points.
“I still don’t have any ITF points that’s why I want to start earning them and hopefully get into the main draw,” said Seno, who is currently ranked No.27 in the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) rankings.
Seno is bound for Thailand with hopes of taking part in the ITF Futures and will try his luck in the Hong Kong F4 and F5 Futures.
Under the ITF format, Futures tournaments allow players to win career titles and improve their rankings.
At present, Nino Alcantara of Cagayan de Oro City and AJ Lim of Manila are the only Filipino racquet-wielders who have ITF points.
Seno knows very well that getting into where he wants to be is a long and meandering journey but he is full of confidence that he would achieve his lofty ambition someday.
“It’s not an easy way up but I will keep my faith in God. I will just stay focused on my long-term goals and one of them is to win a grand slam and become the first Cebuano player to make it into the international pro circuit,” said Seno. (Text and Photo: Iste Sesante Leopoldo)
